Abstract: romance (1982-) is an intermedial poem by Gabriel Rui Silva, a Portuguese experimental writer. This unfinished work composes a radical exploration of multimodal and performative potentialities of text and visual performance. In this article, I aim to study its iterations from written text as total medium to performance art. I thus analyze the diverse embodiments of the poem trough its performances in a variety of site-specific contexts addressing the experimental performances of Gabriel Rui Silva as a field of discursive and performative experimentation between text and body, towards a performative epistemology of language.
